Classification maintenance

Title Classification is a method of applying a number of grouping codes to a Title that allow the group to be identified separately to the system.  These groupings may have predefined system functions or may be user defined to provide information specific to a company requirement.  If the Title Classification codes are used as part of a reporting hierarchy, reports may have to be specifically written to include these codes.

Some Title Classification codes also set parameters that affect Order Entry Processing, like Order Entry Quantity Warning, Warehouse Instructions and Serial Number Tracking.

Add an item classification

  1. In the menu, expand Base Modules > Distribution > Masterfiles >Database Management > Database Management > Item Masterfiles > Item masterfiles and double-click IM Classifications. DSM455 Item Classification Maintenance panel appears.
  2. Enter the Classification type and click OK.
  3. Click Add. DSM455 Add Item Classifications panel appears.

Field  Description 
Classification type 

Titles can be categorized into several Classification Types. These classification codes are not part of the on-line sales analysis.  For example, forecasting requirements could be different to sales analysis and therefore the forecasting requirements can be established using one of these classifications (Forecast Profile IC-FCSTP).

These classifications can also be used to record instructions or parameter checks during transaction processing.  For example, a quantity warning can be setup so that if a sales order is processed and the quantity entered exceeds the quantity ceiling, the order pends for investigation and authorization.

 
Item  Item code for the classification.
Effective date  Date from when the item classification is effective from. 
Classification code  Once a Classification Type has been selected, an individual code belonging to the Type is selected.
Classification extension Any extension data or information on the classification type can be entered on this field.
  1. Enter the above information,as required and click OK.
